...Community Nursery School has been providing a high quality program for parents wishing to send their preschool children to nursery school.  CNS is located within the Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church.

The classes at CNS are carefully designed and organized to provide your child with the very best possible experience for his or her developmental, physical and emotional growth. The progression of needs, from 2 years old through 4 or 5 years old, is thoroughly considered. While the ultimate goal of the CNS program is kindergarten readiness, the staff create learning opportunities that are age appropriate and lots of fun.  New York State Preschool Common Core Learning Standards are taught in the context of interactive play. We have a detailed list of what teachers accomplish for each class. If you are interested, please ask the Director during your visit.

All our classrooms are designed and furnished especially for young children. There are low tables and chairs, comfortable "circle" areas, structured play areas, a washing sink, and an adjoining bathroom in each room. A fenced, child-safe playground is found behind the church building. 

Our upstairs classrooms accommodate 12 children, while our 5-days/week class accommodates 14.  Our children-to-adult radio never exceeds 7:1.

Children must have their birthdays prior to December 1st to be eligible for the corresponding class (i.e. a child must be 3 before December 1st to enroll in a class for three year olds). Two year old children attend class accompanied by parent or other caregiver. Three and four year old children attend class on their own and must have independent toileting skills.  During our Afternoon Enrichment Classes, parents can choose to quietly observe class, or use the hour to run an errand or enjoy a cup of coffee.
